Adventures Out Camp! 

LEARN & EARN SKILLS
through service & adventure!


Our Adventures Out Camp is designed especially for campers ages 12-14 and will take place June 19-July 29. This camp is all about learning useful, marketable skills through exciting adventures and service projects!

Each week, campers will spend one day in lovely Hot Springs, three days out in the field (locations TBA), and one day at Woodson Branch Nature School.

Campers will have the opportunity to earn WBNS stamped skills certificates and for those who excel they will recieve recomendations for work in the following areas:

  • Babysitting skills and techniques, plus pet care and keeping

  • Kitchen Safety

  • Water Safety

  • Survival in the Forest

  • Basic Medic Skills

  • Useful Handy-Person Skills

Week 1 // June 19 - 23

Big Brother, Big Sister Camp

This camp is all about learning the ins and outs of being a valuable marketable babysitter or children and pets. Campers learn how to be responsible for children in their homes, and prepare engaging activities to do together. They will also learn how to make simple foods and snacks, plus basic housekeeping and 1st Aid.

· Adventures > Go Carts, Asheville Dog Park

Sport of the week > Disc Golf

Week 2 // June 26 - 30

Culinary Feast Camp​

Campers learn all about safety in the kitchen while making delicious, fun foods to eat and share with others. We will highlight safe practices, knife skills, use of kitchen appliances, and safe temperatures for cooking and storage. This camp is great for budding chefs!

· Service> Senior Center lunch servers, Soup Kitchen
· Adventures > Hiking and Picnicking at Mill Ridge, Japanese Steak House

  Sport of the week > Soccer

Week 3 // July 3 - 7

Wonders of Water Camp

We simply can not have a summer camp without our famous WATER Camp, right? We will investigate local river and streams from the water quality to aquatic insects. And of course, explore water by rafting and swimming!

· Service> Creek Clean Up
· Adventures > Rafting / Swimming the French Broad River (sec. 10), Jonesboro Water Park, Hot Springs Spa Resort

  Sport of the week > Water Games! (and slip & slide of course!)

Week 4 // July 10 -14

Survivor Camp

Back by popular demand … Survival skills in the woods include the most exciting components of all > building a fire, forging for and cooking foods, tracking, and making natural shelters. We emphasize the value of learning these skills while becoming environmental stewards.

· Service> collecting and stacking wood for Seniors
· Adventures > Pisgah National Forest, Zip lining, Overnight

Week 5 // July 17 - 21

Promising Young Medic Camp

This is a basic introduction to First Aid. The course allows kids to feel empowered by learning basic life saving skills and techniques to keep them and others safe. It’s educational and practical, and instills the importance of helping someone who is injured.

Week 6 // July 24 -28

Handy Person For Hire Camp

Campers learn the fine art of working in the yard with yard garden tools such as lawnmowers, clippers, rakes, weed eaters, tillers, and more. Campers will be confident and able to offer themselves for hire after this camp!

· Skills Certificate > Yard & Garden Tools Expert
· Service> Yard work for elders, Garden and Yard maintenance at WBNS
· Adventures > Biking along the Laurel River, Trampoline Park

  Sport of the week > Soccer

About our Camps...

To help broaden the experience

  • Each camp in this series has a service, adventure, and skills component, plus basic lessons in marketing and money management. Designed specifically for 12—14 year old age group.

  • Three of the days are spent out & about; one day per week they enjoy a day at WBNS with the farm, art, forest, and sport component, and one day is in beautiful Hot Springs!

  • To build marketable value to your child’s skill set, we have a skills certification portion, with the added option for those that excel to recieve a recomendation for hire.

  • The camps in this series blend nicely into one another, but can certainly stand alone as a full week experience.

  • Camps are 9am—3pm Monday—Friday.

  • *There will be a staggered pick up (TBA)

  • We invite knowledgeable Community Visitors to bring deeper knowledge to us to either us on our field trips.

  • Campers can either bring their own lunch or they may purchase a delicious, nutritious pack lunch for $4. Menu TBA each week.
