Sam Taylor | 6TH GRADE & OUTDOOR EDUCATION

Education & Experience:

My background is primarily in outdoor education. I have worked as a whitewater raft guide and kayak instructor on several different rivers around the United States. More recently, I worked as an instructor for the Colorado Outward Bound School, leading river trips and backpacking trips in the canyon country of southeast Utah. I worked for a year teaching Spanish and Social Studies to 7th through 9th graders at a Montessori-style boarding school in Celo, NC last year, and I’m so excited to start work at WBNS this fall!

Education Philosophy

I believe that middle schoolers do best when they are able to learn new, tangible skills and take on projects that matter to them. I want to help create a classroom where students feel supported to be able to make mistakes and learn from them.

Favorite thing about kids:

My favorite thing about kids is how exciting, beautiful and full of mystery the world is to them. Spending time with kids helps me remember how to find adventure and laughter in my life every day.

Favorite thing about WBNS:

I believe that humans are at our best when we are spending most of our time outside in the woods. I love that Woodson Branch prioritizes spending time outside!
