Education & Experience:

For more than a decade I have run my own art-based business, where I’ve had experience with all facets of entrepreneurship from marketing to bookkeeping to customer service and more. I’m a published author (Creative Woodburning, 2020, Penguin Random House) and teach art classes to both adults and children. My business started as a way to bolster my family’s income after the birth of our first child, and grew from there, allowing me to work flexibly and provide the early childhood care that she needed. Through this work, I have worn many hats and found the creativity, grit, and independence of self employment to be rewarding and growth-oriented. Before becoming a mother, I worked with children in various settings, most enjoyably as an Outdoor Educator at a nature center in Michigan, as well as a Teacher of Illustration at a prestigious art camp in upstate New York. I have a deep love for the natural world and understand how important it is to human wellbeing to have immersive and awe-inspiring time within it, having obtained my Permaculture Design Certification and working on farms around the country. I’m grateful to lend my skills and experience in a supportive role here at Woodson.

Teaching Philosophy:

Learn by Doing. Creativity is a superpower that lives inside everyone. The space between you and what you’re trying to learn is made smaller every time you practice. A kind and patient teacher is teaching more than the subject matter at hand.

Favorite thing about kids:

Children have a special connection to their unique gifts, essence, mannerisms, and unfiltered perspectives. I love seeing their friendships with each other blossom, and their process of self discovery unfold.

Favorite thing about working at MCCLC / WBNS:

I’ve been a member of the wider WBNS community for 8 years now as a parent, and I am thrilled to be joining such a compassionate, competent, and inspiring group of staff.
