Forest Guide

Education & Experience:

My first experiences of really feeling the power of creative and hands-on learning come from my childhood years of being homeschooled. Growing up, I had lots of space for curiosity and nature-led inquires to guide the way. This type of education became the roots of a lifelong appreciation for learning, especially in the context of the natural world and our relationship to it.
In 2020, I graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in Outdoor Experiential Education, and have been teaching and leading kids in forest and/or holistic classroom spaces ever since.

Teaching Philosophy:

Just like what we find in nature, I believe that we are multifaceted beings that shine, struggle, and evolve in unique ways. I love the saying “same same but different” to normalize the fact that we may all have different needs moment-to-moment, but ultimately we are here to support, grow, and learn from, with, and alongside one another— hopefully with lots of fun and laughter along the way. I also teach yoga and love to weave in elements of movement, mindfulness, and music to any of my classroom spaces!

Favorite thing about kids:

My favorite thing about kids is how real they are. I love witnessing their oh-so-pure forms of expression, ideas, and ways of connecting with the world around them.

Favorite thing about working at MCCLC / WBNS:

This is my first year at WBNS but I can already feel the love and depth of community here. I feel like I've been invited into a big family that truly, deeply cares about one another, our families and kids, and the mission of this school that each of us is here to support!
